Darfler Cheptna (Royal: Darflër Ceptna) is a Efsisi scientist and engineer. Though he has been continuously loyal to Yakov for most of his life, he was a key contributor to both the failed cyberzinic soldier experiments and the successful but unpopular goon experiments, both of which were funded by the royal archmage Kenedi. His latest invention, the Makerplane, has been used by Yakov as a military reconnaissance device in the Struggle for Gera.

History[]

Early Life[]

Darfler was the only child born to a relatively wealthy and high-status family in Sand City. He was tutored successfully from an early age, and showed a strong interest in science and engineering. From early on, he never wanted to attend college, despite his parent's insistence. From a young age, Darfler was of the opinion that the discoveries he was after could best be pursued on his own time, and shared with others at . And this was proven correct, when at the age of nineteen, he received a personal invitation to work in Yakov's lab complex on cyberzinics, his primary specialty up to that point.

Family Conflict[]

However, he would come into conflict with his parents over this decision. They both wanted him to stay local and start a family, to continue building up their family's wealth and prestige in the Sand City area. Darfler rashly declared that he never intended to start a family, and that his work was a much greater pursuit. His family proceeded to disown him, barring him from their funds and sending him packing. Though he still had the job at Yakov's complex, it was a four-year contract, after which he would have to find other work. Though he earned enough in those four years to purchase his own lab, he still knew he would have to seek further work.
